Each year many police officers are killed and thousands more assaulted in the line of duty while protecting the communities that they serve *(133 killed/58.066 assaulted in 2002).
With terrorism and more violent crimes being encountered across our nation, Exeter Township is committed to providing its police officers with the necessary training and equipment to help ensure the
safety of the citizens within Exeter Township and the Borough of St. Lawrence.
This is accomplished by having officers within the Department specially trained as instructors in various areas of weapons and tactics. These instructors, simply called
“Range Masters”, conduct training for the other officers within the Department on a frequent basis.
The police officers in Exeter Township receive some of the most advanced training in Berks County - from specialty impact munitions to semi-automatic handguns and
rifles. Recently, our Police Department commenced practicing force-on-force training with Simunitions. This type of training places officers in real-life situations in which they must
make split second decisions and use the appropriate level of force to attain a successful outcome.
